Update 11th Aug 2011

Dear Praying Friends

You may remember from our prayer update on 23 July that we planned to leave for Malawi on 12 August for a 2 month visit.  Since then, the political situation in Malawi has continued to deteriorate and there is fear as to what level of violence there may be during planned demonstrations in the country next week on 17 August.

In the last few days we received an email from Syford advising us to postpone our trip as he is concerned for our safety in view of the worsening situation. This is the first "No" we have received in answer to our prayers for a clear "yes or no".  Syford is "on the ground" and naturally feels a responsibility for our well-being.  We felt that in this God was answering prayer in a definitive way which we accept with obedience.  Having shared with our support team and church leaders, we have decided to postpone flying out until after the planned demonstrations and then assess the situation with a view to going as soon as it becomes clear that it is wise to do so.

Naturally, with our cases almost packed and geared up to go, it is not a decision we have taken lightly - seeking to come to terms with our own disappointment but most importantly wanting to be totally obedient to the Lord and not misunderstanding His guidance.

We will be most grateful for your prayers please:

 ·         That God will bring peace, calm and justice to the troubled land of Malawi and that there will be no further bloodshed on 17 August

·         That God will clearly guide when it is right for us to go back

·         For God’s protection for Syford and Elizabeth, and other dear friends at this time of unrest

·         That the ministry is not hindered but that there will be much fruit for God’s glory

·         For the safety and quick release of our new vehicle.  We were talking to Syford again yesterday and there continue to be meetings and phone calls seeking to progress this issue, but at the moment many Government officials are very involved in dealing with the deep level of unrest and crisis in the country.

We continue to be deeply thankful that we know God is Sovereign, All loving and All wise and that He promises to be “our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear ….” (Psalm 46).  Please pray with us that His will is done and that He will be glorified in this situation.

Thank you very much for your love and on-going prayers

Dennis and Sheila
